Symptoms of Ankle or Foot Sprains
If you recently pulled, stretched, or tore a ligament, you may feel pain and experience swelling in your ankle or foot. It may be bruised.
A common cause of ankle sprains is tripping and stumbling on uneven ground. If you have a sprain, symptoms you will have are pain, swelling, bruising, and difficulty walking on the ankle or foot. To prevent sprains, warm up before any type of physical activity. Also, wear proper shoes, especially if you are an athlete.

Treating Your Sprain
Sprains can be treated with immobilization. It all depends on the extent of your sprain, but you may be able to get back to your normal routine quite quickly. You might have to wear a soft cast or "boot" and use crutches for a few weeks.
What You Can Do Now for Sprains
- Rest the affected area
- Apply ice
- Wrap an elastic bandage around it
- Elevate the area with pillows
